Maths Week 2025

13th Oct 2025

Hello everyone! Maths week is taking place from October 11th-19th this year. Again, there’s loads of fun and interesting ways to connect with maths week. The school is registered with mathsweek.ie and there are a lot of resources available on the website HERE (they're aimed at 8-12 years-just scroll down and you’ll find some nice activities).

Third and fourth class Activities

Fifth and sixth class activities

Highlights

3rd/4th class

5th/6th class

All classes

  • Maths festival on Friday 17th October in the school hall. Each class will get approx 30 minutes at the different activity/game stations.

What’s going on in the school?

  • We have some very good maths story books which you can borrow from the maths week hub on the main corridor. This could lead to some interesting maths talks and might provide inspiration for the third and fourth class pupils who'll be creating a maths comic.
  • Each day there will be a problem and a game shared with everyone.
  • We’re going to have the maths festival in the hall again this year on Friday 17th. There will be fun maths games to play and puzzles to solve.

Competition Time: There will be a prize for the winning entry in each class

  • There will be lots going on at the maths board. There’ll be a daily joke along with the Problem/Game! Our estimation station is back in the foyer opposite the Office. There will be a competition amongst the whole school to see if anyone can guess the weight of Jack-O the Pumpkin-be careful not to drop him. Every class can get down and enter-there will be a €20euro cinema token for the closest estimate.

Third/Fourth- Comic Book Creators

Hopefully the maths story books will inspire some budding authors in third and fourth class.

There's also some short books read aloud on youtube such as Jack the builder, I’m trying to love maths and How much is a million? Children will write a comic strip story that will have a maths theme. There might be maths characters with a plot that might be linked to number, shape and space, time etc.

Children can work in pairs or alone if they wish. There’ll be a prize for the best entries!

(Closing date Friday 17th at small break)

Fifth/Sixth- ‘There’s beauty in maths’ Art competition

This year pupils can create a piece of art that relates in some way to maths!  They can use any medium but it must be ready by Friday(small break). Looking forward to seeing some lovely art work around the school soon!
